REUSE OF BATTERIES OR COMPONENTS

Here is an article about the reuse of graphite battery anodes. Unfortunately the anodes are not reused in their original shapes (the Zero Waste approach) but, after use, are ground up to a powder, purified and then reformed. The method is quite clever. It uses the higher electrical resistance of impurities that develop in the anodes. The powder is zapped with a high current which suddenly overheats just the impurities as the current passes through the graphite mass. The impurities are either carbonized or reduced to metals which can then be washed out with acid. Still, I have to ask – how could the batteries be designed at the start to make ALL of the parts reusable?
