The goal of Zero Waste is to create products that last 500 years, whenever possible.

Here is a great project for reuse. A streetcar turned into a bridge.

Thanks to William Shotyk of Edmonton for this tip about BAILEY BRIDGES.  These are emergency steel bridges that are made from modular pieces which are piecemeal assembled on a shore and pushed across a ravine or a river. They can span long distances with a bridge that can then accept tanks and heavy trucks in a military operation. They can also be used in many civilian uses.  See article in Wikipedia. In the movie A Bridge Too Far you can see British soldiers assembling a Bailey Bridge to replace the bridge that the Germans blew up.  Then you see tanks and trucks rumbling across it. This bridge goes a long way toward being designed according to Zero Waste principles.
